Gemini Live: AI Agent with Voice Gmail Control

The New Evolution of Google’s Voice Assistant

Google has announced a major update to its Gemini Live voice assistant, transforming it from a simple conversational partner into a fully autonomous agent. The key innovation is deep integration with the Google Workspace ecosystem and the launch of the Personal Intelligence system. These changes allow the assistant to perform complex, multi-step tasks and act proactively based on user context.

Gemini Live can now not only answer questions but also take over routine operations that previously required manual intervention. This is achieved through a new architecture that allows the assistant to interact with various Google services as a unified whole.

Agentic Tasks and Gemini’s Autonomy

Integration with Google Workspace

A fundamental change is Gemini Live’s ability to perform agentic tasks. This means a user can provide a single high-level command, and the assistant will independently break it down into subtasks and execute them in the background.

For example, the command “Prepare a sales report for last month” activates a sequence of actions:

  • Gathering data from Google Sheets;
  • Analyzing trends and creating visualizations;
  • Forming a structured document in Google Docs;
  • Saving the finished report to a folder on Google Drive;
  • Sending a link to the report to relevant colleagues via Gmail.

The user receives a notification upon completion of the entire cycle. This approach differs significantly from the previous model, where each action required a separate voice request.

Voice Control of Gmail and Daily Brief

A New Level of Email Management

Gemini Live has received advanced features for managing incoming messages in Gmail. Users can use their voice to sort email, archive outdated messages, and mark important ones. The main advantage is the ability to ask Gemini Live to provide a contextual summary of long email threads.

The command “What is the status of the ‘Alpha’ project according to the latest emails?” will cause the assistant to analyze all relevant emails and provide a short summary of the current state of affairs, without forcing the user to read dozens of messages.

Daily Brief Morning Summary

Another convenient feature is the Daily Brief morning summary. Gemini Live automatically analyzes the calendar, email, tasks, and even news to create a personalized audio summary of the day. The user can listen to it during morning coffee or a commute, getting key information about upcoming meetings, urgent emails, and important events.

Personal Intelligence and AI Memory

The key to true agency is the Personal Intelligence system. It provides Gemini Live with long-term memory and the ability to understand the context of the user’s interaction with various applications. The assistant remembers previous requests, preferences, and the user’s specific workflow.

If you previously asked Gemini Live to “always add Alex to the copy of marketing reports,” the assistant will take this rule into account when executing future agentic tasks without needing a reminder. This feature allows the AI to adapt to an individual work style, becoming a true personal assistant.

Comparison of Gemini Live Capabilities

Comparison of Gemini Live functionality before and after the update
Feature Before Update (Base Version) After Update (With Agentic Tasks)
Interaction Simple request-response dialogue Autonomous execution of complex scenarios
Integration Limited to basic actions Deep integration with Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive)
Gmail Management Search emails, read headers Sorting, archiving, contextual thread summary
Context Short-term dialogue memory Long-term Personal Intelligence memory across apps
Proactivity Reaction to request only Daily Brief, action suggestions based on context

Availability and Pricing

The new agentic features and the Personal Intelligence system will initially be available to Google AI Pro subscribers (costing around 20 USD per month). Google plans to gradually expand access to these features to other Workspace user categories, but basic agentic scenarios will remain the prerogative of the premium segment. The rollout of the update will occur in phases over several weeks.
