China Satellite Communications Co., Ltd. (China Satcom) has officially announced the launch of commercial satellite internet services for civilian users. The offering provides high-speed connectivity in remote areas lacking terrestrial cellular or fiber infrastructure. The solution is designed for expeditions, scientific research, emergency services, and transport integration including railways and maritime vessels.

Unlike Low Earth Orbit constellations, China Satcom currently delivers connectivity via Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites. While GEO infrastructure provides wide geographic coverage, latency remains higher than LEO networks. The technical specifications list download speeds up to 100 Mbps and upload speeds up to 20 Mbps. The total cost of equipment and subscription packages has drawn analytical attention due to substantial pricing differences compared to Western offerings.

Hardware Pricing and Annual Data Allowances

Connecting to China Satcom requires purchasing specialized hardware and an active data plan. The provider offers a portable suitcase-style terminal weighing under 5 kg. The device includes a built-in battery with up to 8 hours of battery life and integrated Wi-Fi 6 for local client distribution.
